Jakarta to see 70,000sqm of new retail space by 2026

Thanks to two major mall projects currently under construction.

In a recent report, Colliers said retail supply in Jakarta remained unchanged in Q3 2025, with no new mall completions, keeping the total stock steady at around 4.9 million sq m.

Two major mall projects currently under construction are expected to contribute approximately 70,000 sq m of new space by 2026.

In Greater Jakarta, supply stood at approximately 3.2 million sq m, also with no new completions. Two significant projects now underway are scheduled to deliver around 100,000 sq m between 2026 and 2028.

In the years ahead, no new large-scale malls are planned in Jakarta, with the focus instead shifting toward refurbishing, renovating, and repositioning existing properties. In Greater Jakarta, new groundbreakings are expected to resume from 2026 onward, including one major project already in the pipeline. Other upcoming projects are likely to feature smaller, lifestyle-focused retail compounds rather than traditional mall formats.

To maximize the potential of existing properties, more developers are reinvesting in upgrades and improvements. Over the next few years, both Jakarta and Greater Jakarta are expected to see extensive renovations, including refreshed layouts, facades, and interiors, as well as repositioned retail concept tailored to contemporary shopping behaviors. Well-capitalized landlords increasingly recognize the importance of aligning their assets with evolving lifestyle trends.
