Also, notable transactions in the Kuala Lumpur city centre include the acquisition of W Kuala Lumpur (150 keys) for RM270 million by IOI Group in 2023 as part of Tropicana Corporation Berhad’s continued asset divestment plan. YTL Hospitality REIT acquired Hotel Stripes KL (184 keys) for RM138 million in the same year.
Other transactions include the Achi Jaya Group of Companies acquiring the Sheraton Imperial KL and Faber Imperial Court office for RM350 million in 2022, and the Hap Seng Group purchasing the former Menara KFC building from Royal Group for RM190 million in 2021.
Previously, Royal Group had planned to convert the building into a 430-room luxury hotel, but it was sold to Hap Seng during the development order phase. Hap Seng subsequently rebranded the property as Hyatt Centric.
These acquisitions reflect a growing trend of portfolio diversification within the hospitality sector, focusing on established hotel brands, prime locations, and strategic redevelopment opportunities.
